A Far Rockaway man was arrested Saturday night after he threw two people onto hot coals from a grill and stabbed one of them with a barbecue utensil in Inwood, then fought with a police officer, Nassau County police said.

Police said Fredrick Walker, 43, was outside a Bayview Avenue home having a dispute just after 9:40 p.m. when he threw a 56-year-old woman onto hot coals from a grill he overturned onto the sidewalk.

Walker also struck the woman's head against the sidewalk and stabbed her in the neck with a barbecue utensil, police said.

When a man tried to intervene, he and Walker struggled and the man ended up also being pushed onto the hot coals, police said.

The woman and the man, 59, were taken to a hospital to be treated for cuts and burns to their arms, hands and legs, police said.

Walker suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, but police said Walker became combative, kicking an officer's hand as he was being transported. The officer was treated at a hospital for the hand injury.

Walker was arrested and charged with three counts of second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
