Nassau County police said a Kew Gardens, Queens, man faces burglary charges after he crashed a stolen car in Merrick.
Police received a 911 call reporting a car leaving the scene of the crash at Sunrise Highway and Babylon Turnpike about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a Nassau County police news release.
A man who was the victim of a hit-and-run followed a 2014 Ford Edge to Meadowbrook Parkway, and then he told dispatchers about the fleeing car, police said.
Police stopped the driver of the Ford, Mario Bonilla, 21, of Lefferts Boulevard, who was not able to show his license or registration, police said.
Police said he was wanted in the burglary at a mechanic shop, South Bellmore Auto Care, where he smashed a window and took the keys for the Ford Edge.
Bonilla was arrested and charged with third-degree burglary, fourth-degree larceny and traffic violations. He is set to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
