He stole items from the lockers at two sports clubs in Nassau County, police said, netting credit cards, cash, a phone -- even a GMC Yukon.

Richard Ray, 53, of 7 Barbara Lane, Medford, was arrested Thursday near the corner of West John Street and Strong Street in Hicksville after he was identified by a gym employee, Nassau County police said. He was charged with three counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and an unrelated warrant charge.

He is scheduled for arraignment Friday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said Ray targeted the NY Sports Club on Duffy Avenue in Hicksville and another branch of the club on Franklin Avenue in Garden City.

His pattern, according to police, was to enter the club locker room, gain entry to a locker and remove items belonging to gym guests.

Police said Ray robbed a locker at the club in Hicksville on Sept. 1, stealing a wallet with credit cards and cash, keys and an iPhone. He then hit the club in Garden City on Sept. 17, taking items from two lockers, police said.

Among the items taken, police said, were the keys to a 2003 GMC Yukon, which he then located and stole.

On Thursday, police said, Ray struck again -- this time back at the club in Hicksville.

He entered at about 1 p.m. using a stolen membership key card to check in, police said.

But, police said, an alert clerk realized the picture on the card did not match Ray and, when Ray was questioned about it he left the scene.

The clerk called 911 and a subsequent search located Ray in the area about an hour later, according to police.

Police said the stolen Yukon was located in Patchogue.
