A Copiague man has been arrested in connection with about $2,500 worth of merchandise stolen from two Massapequa stores in May and June, Nassau police said.
Michael Marte, 28, was in the jewelry department of a Sears on Sunrise Highway on June 3 when he asked to see a gold necklace, police said. When the salesperson handed Marte the necklace, valued at $1,124.99, he took it and fled the store, police said.
Then in May, police said, Marte went into the T.J. Maxx on Sunrise Highway three separate times and stole Michael Kors pocketbooks, a combined value of $1,422.89.
On Thursday, detectives arrested Marte at his home at 365 Catskill Ave., police said. He is being charged with two counts of fourth-degree grand larceny and is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
