Mineola woman struggles with burglar

A 69-year-old Mineola woman struggled with a man inside her Mineola home early Tuesday morning after discovering him rummaging through the drawers of her desk, police said.

She tried grabbing him but he was able to break free and escape, Nassau police said. The woman was not injured, police said, but she later learned that jewelry and cash were missing.

The burglary occurred at a residence on Birchwood Court about 11:15 a.m., police said.

The burglar was about 40-years-old, 5'6" tall, of stocky build, and was wearing a blue and white fleece jacket, police said.
