Mother of infant abandoned in shoebox arrested
Detectives found the mother of a newborn that had been abandoned in a shoebox in Hempstead and arrested her on charges of reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and abandonment of a child, police said Wednesday.
Xiomara Gamez, 25, of Hempstead, was to be arraigned on those charges Thursday in First District Court.
