Motorcyclist dies after Hempstead collision

A Hempstead man died after his motorcycle and a Nissan collided in a Hempstead Village intersection Friday evening, village police said.

The motorcyclist slammed into the side of the car about 5:30 p.m. in the intersection of Remsen Avenue and Cornell Street, which has stop signs, Lt. James Hayman said.

The victim, 30, was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m., Hayman said.

The Nissan driver, 79, of Hempstead, was also taken to Mercy Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries, he said.

The cause of the collision and whether the motorists obeyed the stop signs were being investigated by Nassau County homicide detectives Friday night. The motorcycle and the car were impounded for safety checks.

No other details were immediately available Fridy night.
