Nassau police are investigating a deadly accident that killed a motorcyclist Sunday in Bellmore.

Homicide Squad detectives said a 34-year-old man driving a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on Merrick Road when he collided with a 2011 Mazda SUV that was turning left from the eastbound lanes into a shopping center along Winthrop Avenue.

The Bellmore Fire Department ambulance responded to the accident shortly after noon and transported the man to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:42 p.m., police said. Police officials said they are withholding the man's identity until his family is notified.

The 35-year-old woman driving the Mazda and her passenger were not injured. Detectives said there appears to be "no apparent criminality at this time," but have impounded both vehicles for brake and safety checks."
