Once again, Denise Ford of Long Beach will be the only name on the ballot for Nassau County's 4th Legislative District.

Ford, a registered Democrat who sits with the Republican minority and runs on the Republican line, has been cross-endorsed, as she was in 2007.

Ford, who was first elected in 2003, said she was grateful to the Democrats for again endorsing her.

"More importantly, I want to thank the people of my district for supporting me," she added.

The chairman of the Nassau County Democratic Committee, Jay Jacobs, said the party was endorsing Ford because of her record, which included support for Democratic initiatives at times.

The 4th District includes the City of Long Beach, Lido Beach, Atlantic Beach, Point Lookout and parts of Oceanside and Island Park. There are 21,679 Democrats and 14,929 Republicans.

Ford, 58, retired from the phone company in 1999 after 25 years as a technician. Her husband, Harry, was a New York City firefighter who died fighting a hardware store fire in Astoria, Queens, in 2001.

Ford said she was running on a record that included efforts to curb underage drinking, combating gang violence and reducing teen smoking.
