Nassau police: 2 cars crash, leaving woman in critical condition

A 77-year old Nassau County woman remained in critical condition after a car accident in Flower Hill Saturday night that injured three others, police said Sunday.

Nassau police said a 2013 Mercedes-Benz driven by an 85-year-old man and carrying his 79-year-old female passenger struck a 2011 Toyota driven by an 82-Year-old man and his 77-year-old passenger at Port Washington Boulevard and Country Club Drive.

The Mercedes-Benz's driver was traveling north about 11 p.m. Saturday when his car was struck by the southbound Toyota as its driver tried to turn left on Country Club Drive, according to detectives from Nassau's Third Squad, who have not pressed any charges.

The occupants of the Mercedes-Benz were transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries and the male driver of the Toyota was treated for a bruised head and was in stable condition, a Nassau police spokesman said Sunday. The Toyota's passenger was treated for a punctured lung and remained hospitalized in stable but in critical condition, police said.

Nassau police did not identify the names of accident victims, citing a long-standing confidentiality policy.
