Nassau County police are looking for a man who entered a Valley Stream home and struggled with the homeowner before fleeing.

The 30-year-old woman went to a spare bedroom of her home on Bucknell Road at about 5:20 p.m. Monday after hearing a noise and saw the man climbing in a window, police said.

The man grabbed the woman by the hair and began to choke her, police said. She broke free and screamed for help, and the intruder fled, police said. The woman was not injured, a police spokesman said.

Police said the man was 18 to 20 years old, was 5 feet 8 inches tall, had a thin build, a medium-dark complexion, dark eyes, short dark hair and was wearing a red baseball cap, a white sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information about the man or the incident was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS (8477).
