Traffic signals were back in operation by around 1:30 p.m., Nassau County police said, following a malfunction that earlier in the day affected signals in areas of Hicksville, Woodbury and Plainview.

The root cause — loss of a transmission line — was resolved after about a half-hour without power, officials said.

Police said the outage affected signals on Old Country Road and surrounding streets. Police issued an advisory urging drivers to use caution at 9:14 a.m. A PSEG spokeswoman, Elizabeth Flagler, said the issue had been remedied by 9:43 a.m. Police had said earlier, however, that some of the signals had to be reset.

Police said there were no reported accidents as a result of the power outage and signal malfunctions.

The incident also briefly left 5,000 customers without power — which has since been restored, Flagler said.
