North Baldwin man dies in Southern State crash

State Police have identified Timothy Kearney, 23, of North Baldwin as the driver killed in a one-car accident on the Southern State Parkway early Saturday. Kearney was driving westbound when his Toyota Camry went into the center median and struck the guardrail, police said. The car overturned and hit a tree before catching on fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene, between Exits 20 and 21, at about 4:20 a.m., police said. Police investigating the crash are asking any witnesses to call 516-561-8883. Police have identified the driver in a one-car fatal accident on the Southern State Parkway as Timothy Kearney, 23, of North Baldwin.

Kearney was pronounced dead at the scene, between exits 20 and 21, about 4:20 a.m. Saturday.

Kearney was westbound when his Toyota Camry went into the center median, striking the guide rail. The car overturned, slid off the parkway and struck a tree.

"By the time the troopers got there, it was engulfed in flames," State Trooper Tammy Mickoliger said.

The accident remains under investigation by the New York State Police. Witnesses are asked to call 516-561-8883.
