North Merrick woman bitten by pit bull

A woman was bitten on the arm by a pit bull, one of five dogs that became aggressive in a North Merrick home Thursday, Nassau police said.

Responding officers, including Emergency Services officers, were able to contain three of the dogs inside the home on Bridge Street shortly after 5 p.m., police said, but two of the dogs escaped into the surrounding neighborhood.

Those two dogs were still being sought by police and Hempstead Town animal control officers Thursday night, officials said.

The injured woman was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

Information concerning her condition was not immediately available.
