Despite the efforts of an off-duty NYPD officer to thwart him, an armed man robbed a delicatessen in Valley Stream on Tuesday, stealing cash.

The robbery occurred at about 5 p.m. at the Milk Farm Deli on North Central Avenue.

Nassau County police said the robber, posing as a customer, went to the counter, drew a black handgun and demanded the cashier, a 58-year-old woman, empty the register.

An off-duty NYPD officer, standing in line behind the gunman, attempted to stop the robbery, grabbing the gun, police said. A struggle ensued, but the robber was able to maintain control of the weapon and pointed at the officer before grabbing cash and fleeing.

The robber wore a black zip-up hooded sweatshirt emblazoned with the words "Xtreme Couture," police said. He also wore red basketball shorts, dark boots and sunglasses.

Police said no one was injured in the robbery.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
