Two West Hempstead men who took jewelry from a house on Morton Avenue face burglary charges, Nassau County police said Friday.

Jadiel E. Cruz, 25, of 830 Bradley St., and Hector C. Castillo, 25, of 28 Morton Ave., were arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead on charges of second-degree burglary, police said.

Fourth Squad detectives said the two men were seen by a neighbor in a rear yard of a house on Morton Avenue at about midnight Thursday.

Police arriving at the scene found a basement door to the home "kicked in and a red jewelry box containing numerous pieces of jewelry" missing, according to a news release.

The two suspects were seen running toward Oak Street, where police arrested them, the release said.

There were no injuries, and police recovered the proceeds, the release said.
