Pair driving stolen Buick arrested in Uniondale, say cops
Two men driving a stolen Buick with a loaded semiautomatic handgun and black ski mask inside were arrested early Sunday in Uniondale, Nassau police said.
First Squad detectives said they arrested driver Terrell D. Beckett, 23, of 18 Van Cott Ave., Hempstead, and passenger Tyshon M. Beckett, 22, of 29 E. Clinton Ave., Roosevelt, shortly after 3 a.m., charging both with criminal possession of stolen property.
Police pulled the duo over after Terrell D. Beckett failed to signal while turning onto Avenue B from Nassau Road, officers said. Police said the 1997 Buick Century he was driving had a cracked windshield.
During an inspection of the Buick, officers noticed "partially burned white/brown cigarettes believed to be marijuana on the floor near the driver side mat," according to a police report.
Officers also found a black ski mask with "a loaded and defaced Raven Arms MP-25, .25-caliber silver semiautomatic handgun." Police also determined that the car was stolen, they said.
The driver was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a firearm, one count of criminal use of a firearm, criminal possession of stolen property and criminal possession of marijuana, along with four traffic law violations. The passenger was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, one count of criminal use of a firearm and one count of criminal possession of stolen property. Both men will be arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
