Paterson laughs off suggestion Spitzer will seek office

By Gov. David A. Paterson yesterday laughed off a suggestion that his predecessor, Eliot Spitzer, is mulling a run for state comptroller or U.S. Senate.. "Did he mention that he was running for governor?" Paterson quipped.. "Not yet," came the response.. "Good," Paterson said, to much laughter from the crowd assembled at North Hempstead Town Hall.. Paterson went on to say, "I don't have any reaction" to the reports about Spitzer Thursday in the New York Post. Spitzer resigned from office in March 2008 after it was revealed he patronized a prostitute.. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan), a close ally of Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, praised DiNapoli's record in office and said "it's pretty early" for speculation about Spitzer's future. - Reid J.
