Peconic Bay scallop harvest may be best in years
With encouraging results 10 days into the bay scallop season, scientists and the fishing community are hopeful that the population may be rebounding after being decimated by brown tides of algae from 1985 to 1995.
Even more promising is that the Peconic Bay system is showing a large increase in juvenile scallops born this year, hinting at a much better season next year.
There's optimism...
