A pedestrian injured in a Wednesday night accident on Grand Avenue in Baldwin has died, Nassau County police said Thursday morning.

Evelyn Ramos-Coto, 33, was hit by a vehicle while she was in a marked crosswalk, headed across Grand Avenue from west to east shortly before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

She had still been conscious as emergency workers took her from the accident scene but she was pronounced dead a short time later by hospital staff, at 6:49 p.m., police said.

The accident took place as she walked across the southbound left lane of Grand Avenue, at Lorenz Avenue. She was hit by a southbound 2001 Ford driven by a 37-year-old man, police said. The driver's name was not made public.

"The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety checks," a Thursday police release said. "Detectives report no apparent criminality at this time."

In a separate accident, in Suffolk County, reported at 6:26 p.m. Wednesday, a teen boy was still in serious condition Thursday morning after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle in West Babylon, police said.

The accident took place on Straight Path near 12th Street in West Babylon, and the victim was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries, police said.
