A Levittown man was driving drunk and in possession of a stun gun early New Year's morning in East Meadow, Nassau County police said.

Hugh Murray, 26, of 123 Center Lane, faces charges of driving while intoxicated, criminal possession of a weapon, obstruction, operating a motor vehicle without insurance and making unsafe lane changes, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said Murray was driving a 2004 BMW erratically eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike near Merrick Avenue at about 2:45 a.m.

After pulling over the car, Highway Patrol officers found Murray to be intoxicated and arrested him, according to a news release.

Police also found a stun gun shaped as a cellphone in Murray's jacket pocket, the release said.

When police tried to place Murray into the rear of the police car, Murray used his "body and legs to push away from the car," according to police.

The release said several officers were required "to place the defendant into the vehicle," but no injuries were reported.
