Nassau police detectives are investigating a homicide after the body of a man was found near Mill Pond Park Preserve in Wantagh Sunday.

About 4 p.m. Sunday, Seventh Precinct police officers responded to a 911 call reporting a body that was found slumped over a log in the preserve, police said.

The man, whom police had not yet identified Sunday, was taken to the Nassau County medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Police Sunday night could not say when an autopsy would be conducted.

Homicide Squad detectives are asking that anyone with information about the victim or the circumstances of his death to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
