A Uniondale man was arrested Monday on charges he tried burglarize a Boost Mobile store.

Raymond W. Castro, 29, was arrested after First Precinct police officers responded to an alarm at Boost Mobile, 418 Uniondale Ave., in Uniondale, and observed Castro carrying several boxes of merchandise from the store, police said in a news release.

Castro tried to flee, but was caught and placed under arrest, police said. Police said Castro used a pickax found at the scene to break the store's front glass door and gain entry. All the merchandise was recovered.

Castro is charged with burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property, all in third degree. He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
