Rates of federal disability claims in the LIRR
Some figures coming out of the U.S. Government Accountability Office's report on rates of federal disability applications in the LIRR:
In 2007, LIRR employees applied for "occupational disability" at a rate 12 times higher than employees of other commuter railroads.
The U.S. Railroad Retirement Board approved nearly 100 percent of commuter railroad workers' disability claims in 2007.
