Four residents of a home in Atlantic Beach were able to escape safely after a fire broke out in the laundry room of the home early Thursday morning, Nassau County police said.
Police and fire officials could not immediately say how much damage the home sustained in the fire, which was reported at about 12:30 a.m.
The fire was reported after a 26-year-old man told his father, 60, that the laundry room was on fire, police said.
Police said the two men -- as well as two women, ages 55 and 21 -- escaped the home, though the older man suffered what police called a "minor burn" to his forehead.
Volunteers from the Long Beach and Atlantic Beach fire departments responded with eight trucks and 50 firefighters to battle the fire. One Long Beach firefighter suffered a minor back injury, police said.
He was taken to a hospital, where police said he was treated and later released.
The fire was ruled "non-suspicious," police said.
