Retired NYPD's WTC run raises funds for cancer research

Cancer survivor and retired NYPD officer Ron Pechtol of Alberston, whose job was to escort families of 9/11 victims onto the pile at Ground Zero where they paid their last respects to loved ones, will be one of almost 1,000 runners to sprint to the top of 4 World Trade Center's 72nd floor to raise money for cancer research. Pechtol will be joined by his wife and John Theissen, a cancer survivor and founder of the John Theissen Children's Foundation in Wantagh, which raises money for holiday toy drives and offers financial aid to families and their sick children.
