Smoke condition in tunnel causes LIRR delays

A smoke condition in one of the East River tunnels used by the Long Island Rail Road caused delays into and out of Manhattan early Monday, officials said. The cause of that smoke was not immediately clear.

Railroad officials said the delays were 15 to 20 minutes eastbound and 10 to 15 minutes westbound but by 9:30 a.m. the smoke condition had been cleared and trains were operating up to 10...
