State Department of Transportation officials announced that lanes will be closed in both directions on a section of the Southern State Parkway overnight Wednesday and Thursday to allow scaffolding to be installed at New Highway Bridge.

DOT officials also announced closures of southbound lanes of the Meadowbrook State Parkway during off-peak times Thursday.

Officials said that two eastbound travel lanes of the Southern State will be closed between Route 110 at Exit 32 and New Highway at Exit 34, between midnight and 6 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday. And two westbound lanes will be closed those days between Wellwood Avenue at Exit 35 and Route 109 at Exit 33, between midnight and 5 a.m.

Drivers are urged to use alternate routes such as Sunrise Highway, Route 27.

The scaffolding at the New Highway Bridge over the Southern State Parkway is being installed to replace the bridge parapet walls, officials said.

Motorists will be notified of the closings through portable and overhead INFORM electronic message signs.

DOT officials also said they will be closing two southbound lanes of the Meadowbrook Parkway between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursday between the Northern State Parkway and Route 24/Hempstead Turnpike to repair potholes.
