Garden City South man dies after being pinned between two street sweepers
A Garden City South man died Saturday after being struck by a street sweeper inside a Queens depot as he was performing maintenance on another sweeper, NYPD police said.
Steven Frosch, 43, a New York City Department of Sanitation worker, was greasing fittings on a street sweeper when he was struck by another street sweeper about 1 p.m. at the department's Woodside depot at 58-02 48th St., according to an NYPD news release Saturday.
The 33-year-old operator of the vehicle that struck Frosch, also a New York City sanitation worker, was waiting for Frosch to finish operating a grease gun when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal of his sweeper, police said. Frosch was pinned between the two vehicles, police said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NYPD's Highway Collision Investigation Squad responded and an investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.
A relative who answered the telephone at Frosch's residence said his wife was too distraught to talk and declined to comment.
