A man robbed a Freeport resident of his cellphone at gunpoint as he sat outside his home Monday afternoon, but the suspect didn't get very far, police said.

In fact, Freeport Village police arrested Allen Hubbard, 23, of 534 Archer St., just down the block from the robbery scene, charging him with first-degree robbery, Nassau County police said. Hubbard was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead and held pending $300,000 bail.

Police said the robbery occurred on Graffing Place in Freeport at 3:46 p.m., and said Hubbard was arrested minutes later on Graffing Place.

The victim, identified only as a 23-year-old man, was sitting in front of the home, police said, when Hubbard walked up, flashed a handgun -- and demanded his cellphone.
