Train hits car, killing driver
Accident at grade crossing in Syosset where gate had been repaired an hour earlier
The car struck by a morning rush hour train at a Syosset grade crossing Friday was driven by an 86-year-old World War II veteran who was killed.
Investigators Friday were trying to determine whether the crossing gates at Robbins Lane were in the down position at the time of the crash or if one, or both, had malfunctioned.
