About 300 PSEG Long Island customers were without power for more than an hour and a half Friday evening after a transmission wire caught fire on Northern Boulevard at Middle Neck Road in Flower Hill.

Northern Boulevard, which had been closed in both directions because of the fire, has reopened, police said.

Authorities responded to the scene at 6:10 p.m., Nassau County police said.

PSEG Long Island spokeswoman Elizabeth Flagler said the cause of the fire wasn't immediately known but that snow pulling down on the wire could have played a part.

Customers were without power for an hour and 40 minutes, she said.
