Truck strikes Meadowbrook parkway overpass; accident is similar to one 2 days ago

For the second time in three days an errant tractor trailer has crashed into the underside of an overpass on the Meadowbrook State Parkway.

The latest incident took place at 8:54 a.m. Friday on the northbound roadway between Exit M5, Hempstead Turnpike, and Exit M6, the Southern State Parkway, in Uniondale.

The accident at the overpass at Jerusalem Avenue is in the same section of parkway where a southbound tractor trailer struck an overpass Wednesday.

Neither driver was injured in the crashes, State Police said.

Video surveillance footage from the scene Friday showed the tractor trailer in the left-hand lane, wedged under the bridge -- its cab protruding from the north side of the overpass.

Two lanes of traffic were blocked by the truck, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

State DOT cameras showed the traffic was moving again about 10 a.m., and the DOT said the lanes were fully reopened by about 10:30 a.m.
