A man and a woman were arrested Wednesday evening after Nassau County police said they were found in possession of cash and drugs in a vehicle parked in New Cassel.
Driver Tyshonn Coleman, 24, of 355 Magnolia Ave., Westbury, and passenger Jessica Vincent, 27, of 899 Broadway, New Cassel, were each arrested on three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and one count of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to the Narcotics Vice Bureau. Coleman also faces charges of second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.
According to detectives, members of the Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team observed several males approach a black 2013 Jeep parked at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Prospect Avenue engaging "in what appeared to be a hand to hand drug transaction." Police said officers approached the vehicle and saw cash and what appeared to be cocaine on the vehicle's center console.
Police then arrested Coleman and Vincent without incident at 6:10 p.m.
During further investigation, police said officers found in the vehicle 13 glassine envelopes containing a tan powdered substance believed to be heroin and a clear piece of cellophane containing a substance believed to be cocaine.
Coleman and Vincent are scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
