Two escape Bethpage house fire unharmed
Two Bethpage residents were able to escape unharmed early Monday as a fire ravaged their two-story home, fire officials said.
The two, a man and woman, were able to get out of their home on Cambridge Avenue as the fire caused significant damage, said John Fitzwilliam, public information officer for the Bethpage Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 2:07 a.m., Fitzwilliam said, and caused heavy damage to the first floor and heavy smoke damage to the second.
No firefighters were injured in the blaze, which was extinguished in about 40 minutes.
Fitzwilliam said the fire appeared to have originated from a small shed in back of the house and then spread quickly to the first floor.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office was investigating, Fitzwilliam said.
