Way to Go!: Matthew Tinkelman of Hewlett H.S.
To unite his community, Matthew Tinkelman - a junior at Hewlett High School - conceived and coordinated a first-time "Friend-Raiser" last month that attracted more than 1,300 people from the Hewlett-Woodmere area.
To launch the event, Tinkelman met last spring with schools Superintendent Les Omotani, who gave Tinkelman approval to move ahead with his idea: a music and art festival.
