Way to Go: William Winski, Mineola
William Winski's win in a local essay contest can be described as particularly sweet.
The fourth-grade student at Jackson Avenue Elementary School in Mineola was recently named Nassau County's first-place winner in this year's Entenmann's Essay Contest, which challenged children to respond to the question: "What is your favorite Entenmann's product and why?"
In his essay, William described his love of the pastry company's all-butter loaf cake, the school said.
For winning, William received an assortment of Entenmann's products from one of the company's local bakery outlets as well as an Xbox 360 video game console, two Xbox 360 games, and Kinect, a motion-sensing input device for the video game system. He also received a 32-inch flat-screen television, the school said.
The annual essay contest is open to students in third grade through sixth grade. More than 1,000 entries were received this year from elementary schools throughout the county, the school said.
William's sister, Catherine, won the same contest last year for her description of the company's chocolate chip cookies. She won an iPod Touch, a stereo system and headphones.
