A 41-year-old man was arrested in the robbery of a drive-through convenience store in Bethpage Wednesday by police officers who stopped his sport utility vehicle on the Southern State Parkway after a broadcast description of his vehicle, police said.

Robert Dukich of 730 Brush Hollow Rd., Westbury, faces charges of first-degree robbery, driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol with a prior conviction within the previous 10 years, DWAI / drugs and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Nassau County police said that, armed with a crowbar, Dukich walked into the convenience store on Collector Lane just before 11 p.m., demanded money from the female cashier and pried open the cash register.

It was not immediately clear how much cash was taken.

Police said Dukich fled in a green Ford Explorer, but that officers spotted the vehicle on the southbound Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway failing to maintain its travel lane, followed it onto the Southern State and made the stop at Exit 30S.

Police said Dukich had alcohol on his breath and a crack pipe in the car when stopped.

Dukich is scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead.
