Woman charged with leaving accident scene

A driver was arrested and charged in a hit-and-run accident Tuesday in Herricks that left a man seriously injured, police said.

Nassau County police said Caroline Maggio, 79, of 83-03 Little Neck Pkwy., Glen Oaks, Queens, was arrested at her home about an hour after the crash -- and charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury.

Police said Maggio was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile station wagon westbound on Hillside Avenue when she struck a 54-year-old at the corner of Foch Boulevard at 6:38 p.m.

Police said the man was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition.

After her arrest and booking, Maggio was released on an appearance ticket and faces arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
