One of the two elderly women hit by a pickup truck last week while crossing a South Farmingdale street has died, Nassau police said.

Police identified her as Vincenza Bottazzi, 88, of Farmingdale.

Bottazzi and a companion were struck about 3:45 p.m. while apparently crossing Main Street near Carmans Road, officials said last week.

Nassau police said last week the accident was being investigated, but there was no apparent criminality involved. They had no information about the other woman.

Assistant Chief Michael Dauth, of the South Farmingdale Fire Department, said both of the department's ambulances responded about 3:45 p.m. to an emergency call.

The ambulances took the women, who were then listed in "serious condition" to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, Dauth said.

Dauth said a senior citizens' residential complex is nearby on one side of the street.
