Westbound Northern State Parkway will be shut down at night and partially closed at times during the day in Hempstead Town for an improvements project, state transportation officials said Friday.
For four weeks, the weekday closures will center at Exit 28 Willis Avenue, where crews will extend the entrance ramp to the westbound parkway, officials said.
Starting at 10 p.m., one westbound lane will be shut, a transportation release said. Then from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., two more westbound lanes will be closed, officials said.
During the midday, in between rush hours, a single lane may also be shut to accommodate construction needs, officials said.
Up to 160,000 passenger vehicles travel this part of the parkway daily, state officials said.
This is one of 15 locations being improved under the department's $4.8 million motorist safety improvement project, the state said.
The closures may be postponed or canceled because of weather.
