A 66-year-old man spooked an armed would-be robber in Valley Stream on Wednesday morning, shoving him after the suspect demanded money and apparently flashed a gun, police said.

Nassau police said Quaseem M. Talbot, 22, of Valley Stream approached the victim about 10 a.m. as he was getting into his car, parked on Ormonde Boulevard. Talbot demanded the 66-year-old give him cash, and flashed a black revolver that was concealed in his waistband, police said.

The victim then pushed Talbot and ran as a witness to the attempted robbery called police. Talbot fled the scene on foot, but was found by Fourth Precinct officers at Merrick Road and Hook Creek Boulevard, where he was arrested. Talbot was in possession of a scalpel, police said, but no gun was found.

Talbot, of 92 Ormonde Blvd., was charged with first-degree robbery and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday at First District Court in Hempstead.
