New York Real Estate: Roosevelt Island
To Native Americans, it was Minnehanak. To the Dutch, it was Varckens (Hog's) Island. For 20 years it was Manning's Island, for 235 years it was Blackwell's Island, and until 1973 it was Welfare Island.
