Gabby Giffords visits Newtown

NEWTOWN - Former Arizona Rep. Gabriel Giffords, who was seriously wounded in a mass shooting two years ago, visited Newtown this afternoon to meet with families who lost loved ones in last month's shootings.

Giffords spoke privately with Sandy Hook victims and was accompanied by her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly. 

A gunman killed 20 children and six educators during a Dec. 14 rampage at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Giffords was shot in the head at a press conference in Arizona and won the admiration of the nation as she bravely fought her way back, regaining the ability to walk and to speak.
