Obama honors slain Newtown teachers

President Obama will present their families with the 2012 Presidential Citizens Medal today.

WASHINGTON D.C. - President Barack Obama today honored the six educators killed during the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

The teachers received the 2012 Presidential Citizens Medal, the nation's second-highest civilian honor.

The family members of Rachel Davino, Dawn Hochsprung, Anne Marie Murphy, Lauren Rousseau, Mary Sherlach and Victoria Soto accepted the medals on behalf of their loved ones.

The educators were six of the 18 medal recipients chosen from about 6,000 nominees.

Other medal recipients were honored for their work helping children, veterans and the disabled.
