The National Weather Service said strong winds and black ice posed problems for motorists and other commuters during the early Tuesday rush hour. The service also said Tuesday that a daily record low of 9 was reached at about 6 a.m. at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma, breaking the previous mark of 13 set in 1988.
