"Campaign Season: The 2010 Race for Governor" -- a joint Newsday/News12 documentary -- takes an inside look at one of the most dramatic gubernatorial contests in New York State history. Together with ongoing stories that appeared in Newsday, “Campaign Season” was documentary-making on the run. Click here to read the stories.
Newsday reporter Thomas Maier and video journalist John Paraskevas produced this documentary in seven chapters, shown at different points during the course of the campaign, with finishing touches provided by News12’s production team. Then after Election Day, they pulled together a complete hour-long presentation looking at the winners, losers and what this campaign meant for New York’s future.
Over eight months, Maier and Paraskevas filmed hours of video footage, including exclusive interviews with candidates, party leaders and key political figures to track the ambitions, betrayals and behind-the-scenes influences in this race. This combination of video and print appeared in the pages of Newsday, the websites of Newsday and News12, was broadcast on special reports on News12, and presented on News12’s Video on Demand channel. Those involved in News12 Long Island’s airing of this documentary include producer John Piranian, video editors Marc Racenstein and Glenn Garthwaite, and graphics expert James DiGregorio. Other Newsday contributors included Mario Gonzalez, Elizabeth Moore, Jack Sirica and Arnold Miller.
