Maxwell’s, a tavern and restaurant in downtown Islip, just completed an expansion to twice its original size, adding a new raised dining area, a communal table and a wraparound bar plus a fireplace. You'll also find outdoor seating with a fire pit for cooler nights.

A new pub style menu from executive chef Mario Villalobos includes Buffalo chicken wings with house-made blue cheese dressing ($8.95), penne alla vodka with prosciutto and artichoke hearts ($13.95) and chicken bruschetta ($16.95). There’s also a chipotle BBQ burger ($9.95), a shrimp po’boy ($9.95) and spicy Asian pork tacos ($8.95).

Maxwell’s is at 501 Main St., Islip, 631-210-0011, maxwellsny.com.
