BACKGROUND: Santino, 48, of East Rockaway, is also on the Conservative and Independence lines. A town board member since 1993, he is also spokesman for Nassau County Republican leader Joseph Mondello. Santino previously served two terms on the East Rockaway Village Board, with two years as deputy mayor. He also was assistant to the Nassau Board of Supervisors. He holds a bachelor's of art degree from St. John's University.

ISSUES: Although town taxes represent a small portion of the local tax burden, Santino said keeping taxes down is a top priority. He said he would do that by continuing good fiscal stewardship. Santino said he makes a point of being accessible and responsive to his district. He supports responsible development, but has concerns about the size and scope of the Lighthouse project. He also wants to promote downtown revitalization in Baldwin and continue his focus on community issues.
