BACKGROUND: Filiberto, 62, is also running on the Conservative, Tea Party, Independence and Working Families lines. She has been a district court judge since 1997. The West Islip resident has been presiding judge of the Suffolk County Drug Treatment Court. She was a senior prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, handling state and federal criminal litigation. She was in private practice and handled civil, family and estate issues. Filiberto received a bachelor's degree from St. John's University in 1969, a master's degree from Hofstra University in 1973 and her law degree from St. John's University School of Law in 1985. She has been an adjunct professor of criminal law and procedure at Stony Brook University.
